Chris grumbled to himself as he walked through the doors of the mayor's office, frustrated with the idea that his taxes were somehow messed up again. "This is a waste of time," he muttered, glancing down at Chief, his loyal German shepherd K9, who trotted calmly at his side. "I pay every year, and now I gotta deal with this nonsense. Just once, can’t they get it right?"
Chief tilted his head, his ears perking up as if in agreement, though Chris knew the dog couldn’t really understand the complexities of city paperwork. Still, it felt better to have someone to vent to as he made his way toward the office of the mayor, his mood souring with each step. "Right, Chief? We should just say 'fuck this' and be done with it."
Jones got out of his car and Anderson's car. "How was the weekend Anderson?"
Anderson gets out of the car. “My weekend seemed decent once since I’ve moved into the new farmhouse and farmstead with my husband and I have a three month old baby Samuel.” Anderson walks over towards the doors of the outer entrance of the building.
Jones raised an eyebrow, impressed as he followed Anderson toward the doors. "A farmhouse and a new baby? Sounds like you've had your hands full," he said with a chuckle. "How are you even finding time to sleep?"
As Anderson paused to gather her thoughts, she casually continued speaking, her voice echoing through the lobby of the governor's office building. "I manage," she said, her words filled with a sense of determination. "I have my husband. We recently relocated from Wichita Falls, Texas to this area." She mentioned that she usually slept well, but sometimes relied on the assistance of her husband's family members in the county to help with the baby.
"That's good, What Do Do you think of Liberty?" Jones asked, referring to Liberty County.
Anderson nodded slightly as she and Jose conversed, tilting her head towards Jose. "I must say, it's a lovely county, Jose," she commented. Then, Anderson proudly displayed her Texas Ranger ID to the older woman secretary, who looked up from her desk. "Good afternoon, ma'am. I see both of you are here for a special appointment with our Mayor" The woman secretary writes with a pen in their ledger. Anderson nods and says, "That would be correct, ma’am." Anderson takes the pen to write her name in the register for their check-in.
Chris was sitting in the waiting chairs when he noticed the Texas Rangers walk in and begin chatting about meeting with the mayor. Chief just watched the Rangers closely, But still interested.
As Texas Ranger Anderson walked towards a chair in the front lobby of the mayor’s office, she noticed a man already sitting in one of the chairs near the entrance. "Howdy," Anderson said as she took a seat and lifted her own Texas Ranger's hat, which is a cowboy hat fashioned.
"Sup, You newly stationed Ranger here in the County? I know Jones, Seen him around before, " Chris asked Anderson
Anderson gives Chris a subtle nod as she says, "Yes sir. I have also recently had moved into this county last weekend from Wichita Falls with my husband and my infant son, Samuel. We just moved into the farmhouse property on Vine Street," Anderson responds.
"Nice, Well I'm Chris Hayes, a Sheriff Shift Supervisor here in the County, And Well also a K9 Unit" Chris held his hand out. "Welcome to the County"
Anderson returns and shakes Chris's hand, saying, "Thank you, sir. I'm currently the only new addition to the station. My name is Catherine, and it seems that the Texas Ranger of this country does not have a supervisor, as it's just me and Jones."
"You will get more soon, We have the Spring Revival Festival coming up, there will be more LEO around these parts, As well as any other first responders, Well welcome, If you ever need anything" Chris hands a Card with his name, Rank, and Work phone number on it. "Call"
Anderson pulled out the same contact card ID holder with her badge, a card showing her rank, and her contact phone number. "To be honest with you, Chris, I have never been to this spring festival. Hopefully, my family will enjoy the festival, why should I call?." Catherine handed the card to him.
"If you ever have any issues with a local, they shouldn't give you any, But there are a few that do give trouble, But nonetheless, call, even if you are lost, call, I will help" Chris replied.
Anderson nodded in agreement and then reached for her wallet. She carefully pulled out a cherished photograph of her husband and herself nestling their newborn baby Samuel, a precious moment frozen in time.
Hayes, Mayor ready to see you" The Desk Attendant said.
Chris nodded. "Chief, Heel." Chris stood and walked to the door with Chief following right next to Chris.
Jones smiled. "Yea, he's the Head Supervisor for the Sheriff Department, You will see him often, He is our liaison we speak to when we need to get in touch with the Sheriff Department, Some say hes gonna run for Sheriff this coming Election."
Anderson listened but didn’t say anything else she is not even the head of Texas Ranger division that’s one of her goals to become eventually rise to ranked.
Chris walked in and took a seat.
The Mayor was standing looking out the window into downtown. "You wanted to chat with me Colonel?"
"Yes, Its about my Taxes, It seems they were messed up not the 2nd, not the 3rd but the 4th Fucking time, Could you explain?" Asked Chris.
"It is beyond my control, Chris, You might just have to redo them" The Mayor replied as she sat down.
"I would say hell no, I'm busy as it is, Got the Spring Festival coming up, Ward wants all of the Department ready to go, Plus being Head Shift Supervisor has its downs" Hayes responded.
"Agreed, Why don't you make the choice, on whether to do the again or not, I will look into it, See if its a mistake on our end." The mayor stated.
"Good, Now I have to get back on patrol" Chris stood, tilted his white wrangler cowboy hat, and walked out.
Chris walked out and looked to Anderson. "Have fun, She's a bitch" And Chris walked out with Chief still following his handler.
Anderson briefly glanced at Chris while she seated reminded looking down at her favorite photograph. The cherished image captured her husband standing, cuddling her in his lap, and smiling as Catherine embraced their handsome newborn baby Samuel, creating a precious moment frozen in time.
"Yep, Expected that, He don't like the mayor." Then their names were called. Jones stood and began to enter the Mayors office.
Jones walked in and took a seat. Waiting for Anderson to sit before starting.
Anderson walked in soon after, tucked away her ID wallet and precious photo in her badge wallet, and closed the doors.
Once Anderson sat Jones begun. "Well Mrs. Mayor This is Ranger Anderson, Just moved into Town, and new to the County"
"Welcome Ranger Anderson, I hope your stay has been well so far, You moved just in time to be in our Spring Festival." The Mayor stood up to walked around the desk. And Held her hand out to Anderson.
Anderson graciously shook the mayor's hand and expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you, ma'am. My family is settling in quite well in the county, particularly my three-month-old firstborn son."
"Son? Congrats, I have had thoughts of having one, But my Job tends to take most of my time, Maybe one day. I know you’re new to the Ranger division here, But will you be on shift when our Festival parade starts?" Asked the Mayor.
Anderson node “ yes ma’am thank you while she pulls out the photo of her baby son for the mayor it is a smallest wallet sized photograph of her baby and her husband in the same picture “ that’s affirmative as I’m going very ready to be on shift as I’m currently new Ranger division since I may be necessary for me have to act as head of the Texas Ranger division it’s the first time I'm the only woman in this division and and I will be on duty full time during the festival parade season starts.”
"Well I want you at the front, We don't have many females in our law enforcement community here in the County, " The Mayor told Anderson
Andeson expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I am eager to collaborate with my brother beside me Jose for the festival events operations.” She held tightly to her own small wallet size photo of her own family members.
"Plus I'm re-running for Mayor, And I'm s gonna need Support from our Local Law Enforcement, And I already know Colonel Hayes ain't gonna help"
“ i would rather be wising on being a mayor someday although I do know there is a family feud going on with the Buchanans at the McHenry‘s farm ranches we do need to address with the law-enforcement type of operations.”
"You? Run for Mayor? You already got my vote" Jones laughed.
"Interesting, Maybe, Just , Maybe" The Mayor thought out loud.
"We do have an Assistant Mayor, Maybe if your Interested you could be my running mate" Asked the Mayor.
Anderson just nodded her own head with say that “ I will be interested most certainly will be. We shall see where the future goes for this county. however, we need to address existing problems with issue in regards to the criminal feud going on with the two families Buchanans as well as the other rivalry McHenry‘ family members illegal allegations includes a lot of unlawfully embezzlement.”
"Embezzlement?" Jones asked turning in his seat.
Yes I have been reading all of the documents since I got here today.”Anderson added then she pulled out a little files of paperwork evidence from her portfolio book as she walked to show the evidence .
¨Interesting¨ Jones replied.
The Mayor stood ¨Well its been great to chat, but i have a meeting to get to, Its at Noon, its 11, now, Gotta get ready" She reached to shake Andersons hand, She already knew Jones, so no hand shake for him.
Anderson stood up to shake the mayor’s hand as she calmly collected her documents placed back into her file binder as she subtle told Jones to follow her lead to head back to the Ranger station office to go over the case evidence source to make sure she was properly busy with work on her duties as a Texas ranger.
